0 Baltimore Web Designer Finds Her Passion In New Specialty

For more news and information about employment and education, visit
The professional audio-visual field or Pro AV, as it is called, refers to the burgeoning area of expertise known as commercial integration – that is, where audio-visual intersects with new or existing technology. Because of its increasing complexity in venues such as stadiums, churches and businesses of all sizes and the expense involved, professional guidance is becoming simply a wise business decision.

Dawn Meade, is the marketing and media director at Net AV and was named to the 2014 ‘Top 40 Commercial Integration Influencers Under 40’ by Commercial Integrator magazine.
Her career, however, did not begin in technology. She initially graduated from Dickinson College with a B.A. in Dance/ Dramatic Arts.
As she explains, “I obtained my graduate degrees while working in the industry, primarily to bolster my own credentials as a woman working in a technology field.”
Meade graduated from University of Maryland University College with a dual degree – an M.B.A. and M.S. – in Technology Management Information Systems and then went on to obtain certifications including Infocomm International Certified Technology Specialist (CTS) certification.
What inspired you to enter Pro AV?
“I actually fell into the Pro AV field. I was working in advertising and web design but my commute was awful; and the position was not what I’d hoped for. My fiancé was working in Pro AV and arranged for me to do a freelance web design project at his company. I started there and never went back! I had no idea that playing with all the cool AV technology was a legitimate career opportunity.”
How does your educational background relate to your current role?
“Since there is no degree program in the U.S. currently for the Pro AV integration field, I went with an M.B.A. and a semi-related Technology Management IT degree as a way to bring additional value to my role.”
How has your education helped to further your career and contribute to your success?
“The M.B.A.-M.S. do give me more credibility when meeting with corporate and Federal clients who aren’t as well versed with the specialized Pro AV certifications.”
“On the other hand, my industry certifications, specifically the CTS, provide a credibility within the industry and open doors there.”
“Thus, the combination of the M.B.A.-M.S. with the CTS has provided me the skills and recognition needed to rise to my current level.”
What is some advice you can offer others looking to go into Pro AV?
“Since we don’t have any degree programs, we will train passionate, interested and talented people. Workers with the right skills and our certifications – as well as some standard IT certifications – are in WILD demand.”
“The best ways to get involved: Apply at your local AV integrator. Visit Infocomm International, or National Systems Contractors Association; both of the above offer industry specific classes online, links to other educational opportunities, scholarships and grants for education, and even job boards to find positions.”

0 4 Reasons Why You Should Set Up Your Website on a Cheap Hosting Solution

When first building your website, be it a business website, an ecommerce site or even a personal Wordpress blog, it is important to keep within your budget. Since you may just be testing the waters before deciding on the best direction to take with your website, it is wise to go with the most affordable web hosting solution you can find.
This is the reason why I advocate for a cheap web host. There are many reasons to back this decision up. Below are the four main reasons why you should go this direction instead of starting out with a very expensive web hosting solution.
They Are Affordable
Of course as the term suggests, cheap web hosting is definitely affordable. It can fit within your budget without stretching it. This way, you will have enough cash left to dedicate to marketing and popularizing your website. After all, what you are after is a website that brings in business.
They Are Flexible
A cheap web hosting solution will almost always have another hosting option that you can opt for to make your website better. Some will offer upgrades when your website exceeds bandwidth or space. Others may recommend a sister hosting company where you can transfer your site to when you experience growth. The bottom line here is that they will offer you the service you need to get started and once you have enough business and traffic from your website, you can then move to a more expensive option.
They Have the Best User Interfaces
Being relatively cheap and affordable, these hosting solutions ensure that they have very easy to use interfaces. The reason for this is because they project a high number of sign-ups. Offering technical support for such a big number of clients can be overwhelming for them. So, to avoid this, they make things simpler, starting with the back end user interface. You will therefore have almost no reason at all to call them up. It is almost impossible to get stuck setting up your website with such cheap host. Most use cPanel for this which is very easy to use.
They Extend Technical Support
Although these affordable hosts have very easy to use solutions within their hosting accounts, the huge number of clients who sign up with them definitely comes with a mix of people from all walks of life. This means that lots of support tickets are raised. Such hosting companies therefore invest heavily on a technical support and customer support team. You can therefore be sure that you will never get stuck along the way because there is a team on stand by to help you out.
Be advised though that these cool advantages only apply to a few select affordable web hosting solutions. You can make your choice of such good hosting companies to go with for your website by visiting inexpensivewebhosting.reviews, which is a good resource for finding cheap and reliable web hosts.

0 Netwise Hosting's New London Central Facility Almost Ready For Initial Occupancy

Wednesday, January 28, 2015:  Netwise Hosting’s brand new flagship London data centre will be ready for initial occupancy “very soon,” according to the management team in charge of the build project.
This hotly anticipated data centre has been under construction for around a year, with the 11,000 sq ft high-tech facility now nearing completion. The first data hall is now finished, with final testing and commissioning underway throughout February and March. Existing customers and advanced pre-sale customers will then be able to step foot inside the new data centre for the first time, with a series of public launches to follow shortly thereafter.
Management at Netwise Hosting have confirmed that the final phase of the build project is comprised of power provisioning, as well as finalising the high-speed network and other related systems. Once these final works are complete, a rigorous commissioning and testing phase will begin ahead of populating the first racks.
Matt Seaton, Senior Manager at Netwise, gave some internal insight into the project.
“I can’t describe how excited we are to get the first of our customers online in the new facility. This has been a huge project for us, and to see it come together now is just fantastic. We have had lots of people following the build blog online; it’s been great to share the progress with the industry and have such positive feedback throughout. London has needed a new colocation facility like this for quite some time, and we are very pleased to announce that it’s here, and ready to deliver customer services.”
Managing Director, Matthew Butt, also gave comment.
“It’s funny to think back to starting this project in my loft at home with Matt [Seaton] when we were still at school, and now I can stand in the first of two data halls, each holding 96 occupiable racks. The progress we have made as an organisation is truly incredible, and I am very excited to open the doors to this new facility. It is fair to say that we have had some delays throughout the project; however we never compromised quality for speed of completion. Everything has to be perfect for our customers, and we take that responsibility very seriously.”
This is the second facility designed and built entirely by the Netwise Hosting team, the first of which, based in Sutton (Surrey), was decommissioned in March 2014 due to rapid expansion.
Management at the organisation have stated that their dedicated server estate will be the first set of systems to migrate to the London Central facility from their temporary partner site in Docklands, followed by their portfolio of colocation clients shortly thereafter.
Whilst the site will begin welcoming customers into the new site imminently, on-going supplementary works will continue into the summer, in line with the organisations commitment to continual improvements as seen at their award-winning Sutton site. This will include expansion of automated systems, final cosmetic enhancements to the facility, and other non-technical works which will dramatically raise the profile of the data centre in the competitive London market.
Matt Seaton has indicated that a new version of their website is set to follow in the summer, along with a redesign of all company marketing materials, however in the meantime a specification sheet for the new facility available on the Netwise Hosting website. You can download a copy from the Netwise Hosting website.
Netwise Hosting are still accepting private tour bookings for interested parties. The Netwise Hosting team ask that readers regularly check their social media outlets for more definitive timescales in the coming weeks / months.

0 Want to be Part of a New Online Surface Pattern Designer Directory?

If you haven't already discovered it, there is a new online directory called The Little White Book of Surface Pattern Designers.

On the 'About' page, The Little White Book of Surface Pattern Designers is described as "a new online directory offering a colourful but more importantly, useful tool for agents, journalists, design focused bloggers and manufacturers that are looking for new, creative talent in this particular field. The directory lists a broad spectrum of international designers and artists who retain their autonomy. Each designer's listing shows a visual taster of their design style along with their relevant contact information, enabling them to be contacted directly."

The first edition has been put together very nicely; I would love to see more thumbnail images from each designer, as it is hard to get a clear idea of what a designer is about from one image. I also wonder if it should be arranged alphabetically. The project is just in its infancy and will no doubt evolve, and on the whole I think it is an excellent resource. There is a small fee to be included, which is more than reasonable given the amount of time it must take to compile and market. The second edition is due around March/April of this year. If you would like more information, please click through to the Find New Designers site to register your interest.
